Partnership & Grantee Highlights

Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA-VT)

Building resiliency for farms and producers focused on pollinator-friendly practices

One Hive

One Hive made a two year grant to Northeast Organic Farming Association – Vermont (NOFA-VT) to support a grassroots organizer position to further the goals of their Policy Program, and to support Resilience Grants to farms and producers, focused on pollinator-friendly practices. Past resilience grants have focused on distributing culturally important foods and teaching the next generation about food sovereignty.

As part of their work for a healed and thriving food and farming system, NOFA-VT has advocated for ending the use of toxic pesticides in agriculture that harm humans and other living beings while exacerbating climate change. In 2019, NOFA-VT worked in coalition with state and national partners to pass legislation restricting the use of neonicotinoids (a class of pesticides that are highly toxic to bees and other pollinators) to trained applicators. In 2023, NOFA-VT is expanding its advocacy team and joining a campaign aimed at ending the use of neonicotinoids in agriculture, while ensuring a just transition for farmers to more ecologically and economically viable methods.
